Overview
The Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the Federal Reserve Board (Board) and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) conducts audits and evaluations of the Board and CFPB's programs and operations to assess and promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in these programs and operations, while helping to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse.
I was hired as their graphic design intern from September 2019—December 2020. My responsibilities were to:
Adjust the brand style guide by adding a secondary and monochromatic color palette.
Redevelop data visualization standards based on research and new colors to improve accessibility and comprehension.
Assist Board Information Technology team with redesigning the OIG Hotline forum for reporting fraud, waste, and abuse.
Design content for external products (publications and outreach).
Design content for internal communications (digital signage, intranet products, etc).
Brand Style Guide
I was tasked with redeveloping the OIG’s data visualization standards to become more accessible, comprehensive, and to better align with the agency’s branding.
To accomplish this, I researched color theory, accessibility, and the appropriate color schemes to be used for each figure.
Audit Reports
Part of my responsibility as the graphic design intern was to collaborate with the auditing teams to create graphics for reports that asses the Board and CFPB’s efficiency and effectiveness. Below are some graphics I designed for these reports.
Hotline Forum UX/UI
I assisted the Board of Governor’s UX Team with redesigning the OIG’s hotline form. The main goal was to improve the usability of the form for both the user and the receiver (of the submissions).
The main problem faced by the Lead Hotline Coordinator for the OIG was that her team would receive an abundance of complaints unrelated to the functions of their agency. The team and I wanted to find a solution to prevent complaints like this from being submitted by creating a process that will ultimately filter out the relevant complaints.
Below is the workflow diagram of the form that I designed.
COVID-19 Infograph
The COVID-19 infograph was designed for the OIG’s investigations team in Washington D.C. The graphic was designed with simplicity and easy readability in mind.
